“St Austell is a diamond hidden in the rough, full of wonderful surprises, lets take the Market House for example, a few shops full of trinkets, look up and you will see the one of most impressive unsupported timber roof constructions in Europe! Yet the only mention of this was in a car-park opposite lidl’s.” The map will help inform, highlight and educate the local people, school children and visitors of St Austell the wonderful treasures that have perhaps been overlooked in the past. Simon Riordan, illustrator of the Discovery Maps says, “I’ve been working on the town map for the past two months and have just started the second map that will feature the coastline from Mevagissey to Fowey and include the Eden Project, Clay Trails and Luxulyan Valley. The maps will help highlight just how green and full of trees the town actually is, as well as the beautiful location that St Austell is set in bordered by some of Cornwall’s finest coastline, and gateway to the fabulous Roseland.” The St Austell Discovery Map is part of a bigger project to help incorporate the sustainability message, positively educating people about car free days and reducing our environmental impact on the planet. 50,000 maps will be printed and distributed freely in St Austell and if enough funding is raised a website too.”
